What Size Concrete Septic Tank Do I Need?

Grahams Precast Concrete Products • October 12, 2020

When you need a new septic tank, you need to decide whether you are interested in the standard tanks, used in many homes, or if you would like to try concrete tanks, which have many benefits for homeowners in Australia.

In order to understand more about these tanks, including the size that you will need, Grahams Precast Concrete Products are here to explain the facts.

WHAT SORT OF SEPTIC TANK DO I NEED?

Many homes in Australia use some form of septic tank in their years as a repository for wastewater. This tank holds the water which is gradually moved into a drain field, and solids, which have to be kept as sludge until they can be removed by professionals. The tanks can be made of a number of materials, including fibreglass, but concrete is an increasingly popular choice.

CONSIDERING CONCRETE

If you want to make sure that concrete is the best choice, then you should consider whether concrete is the best option. It is the most durable, affordable and practical, particularly when it comes to collecting sludge, and may also be the choice if you need to comply with local building codes. Talk to Grahams Precast Concrete Products to find the best solution.

FACTORS AFFECTING SIZE

There are several factors that you need to consider when looking at the size of your septic tank. All households are different, of course, but you need to consider the size of the home and property, and the number of people in the home. You should certainly consider how much wastewater the house produces, and what system, either greywater or total wastewater, you use.

SIZES OF SEPTIC TANKS

In general, the smaller the home, the smaller the septic tank. You can use a 2050l tank for two-bedroom houses, and 2300l gallon tank for a three-bedroom house. The tank size will usually increase for each bedroom, so if you have a house with more than four bedrooms, expect to buy a much larger septic tank such as our 5000l model.
